Training

Some of you know that Cody was away at 'training' this last week. I think there was some training in there, coupled with a whole lot of fun, morale booster type of activities. He had a great time even though the boys and I really missed him, and he got some awesome pictures. This picture is of the patrol vessels tethered together on one of the very beautiful days they had. Coming home they had some kind of rough seas as I am sure you can tell. He said there were times when all 32' of the boat were out of the water! Yikes. Why does he tell me this stuff. It just goes to show that the most dangerous part of his job is not the scarry criminals he encounters, lol.

Cloudy Day

Who knew a cloudy day would be so awesome for picture taking. Mom took these two pictures (among others) right in front of the house. These two are my absolute favorites so I wanted to share them. Hey mom, you should try the Alaska Mag photo contest with these!

Crabbing

We're beginning to fully enjoy all that Petersburg has to offer. Cody, dad, and I went out with some of the guys Cody works with and made a nice dinner of it! This first picture is Cody and I with his friend Tom. The other pictures are of the big catch. The crabs in the cooler are dungeness some of the others in the pot are tanners (related to snow crabs). YUM!! We're standing in front of the "Bennie M" which is similar to a lot of the commercial fishing boats that are out and about. It is not the boat we went out in. We were in a much smaller boat (about 20') which is perfect for our non-commerical ventures!

Devils Thumb at Sunset

We've had a total of 3 clear sunny days in the month that we've lived in Petersburg. All kinds of snow and rain records have been broken in the last 2 months, so needless to say we were very excited to take some pictures last week when we had sun. This is a picture at sunset of Devils Thumb which is the peak right in the middle of the picture. If you have time to surf, be sure to check out our "Links" list for more info.

On Patrol

This is a picture Cody took while on patrol one day last week. His boat is called The Moen, after the late Trooper Moen. Its pictures like this that wear me down and make me want a boat of our own!

Petersburg

Here is our new home town! We just happen to visit during their snowy-est week and the snowy-est month in recorded history (our luck). It made for beautiful pictures though and an awesome visit. The town is about half way between Ketchican and Juneau and is the only one on Mitkof Island. There are a little more than 3000 people and all the amenities a person could need. Two grocery stores, two hardware stores, a department store, drug store, etc. There are several little gift shop/art galleries for the cruise ship tourists. There are even a couple of restaurants! We've already tried...well...all of them, they aren't bad. I know it's hard to believe we live somewhere without Wal-Mart and Taco Bell, but I think we'll adjust quite fine. The bummer part is that we'll have to cook dinner like every night, ugg. We, or should I say, "I" have never been too good at that. We will do weekly shopping at the biggest grocery store in town, but all of our large purchases will be from Juneau or Seattle. Everything gets shipped on the ferry. We can't wait for everyone to come and visit. Petersburg has awesome fishing and there is really good hunting on the near by islands; however; in order to fully enjoy it we will need a boat. So you may make your contribution at Well Fargo account number - oh just kidding!
